Sawtooth School for Visual Art Visiting Artist Workshop: Figurative Carving in Leather

This 2-day workshop will be offered at the Sawtooth School for Visual Art in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Saturday and Sunday, March 21-22, 2006. You must register on their website: Sawtooth School For Visual Art.

Delve into the art of leather carving and learn to create realistic designs on leather with artist Christopher Kearns. Taking nature as inspiration,  you'll learn the fundamentals of tooling realistic designs on leather, including birds, animals, flowers, and more. While working on small practice pieces that can be turned into key fobs, coasters, patches and more, you'll learn about tool selection, technique and process for carving realistic and detailed designs. If time allows, You'll be able to tool and paint a 5" x 7" animal portrait, bringing your leather artistry to life. All tools, and materials are provided and patterns and samples will be available for reference  and inspiration. No prior experience is necessary.
