The original eagle feather and bison are carved on a single piece of leather, 1/8 - 3/16 of an inch thick. The fur is cut with a surgical scalpel and lifted, giving it extra depth and dimension.

The first time we went to see Old Faithful we arrived shortly after it had just gone off and most of the people had moved on. It was a beautiful, sunny fall day and the park wasn’t overly crowded. As we were making our way up to the geyser we were a little surprised to see so many large, dark stones haphazardly placed beside it. And then one of the “stones” stood up! This was a small group of buffalo who were there to soak up some warmth and maybe get some salt for their diet. They were totally undisturbed by the growing crowd that was gathering for the next eruption. Some got up and ate while others remained to lie down. Then, right on time, Old Faithful did not disappoint. It truly was a beautiful scene with the sun shining, Old Faithful erupting and the small group of buffalo there to be part of it all. By the time geyser was done spewing its steam and gasses, most of the buffalo had stood up. They were starting to move off and the crowd did as well. Both off to enjoy more of the wonders of this awe-inspiring park.
